Ethnic Groups
There are many ethnic groups in India but they are mostly known as tribes. The major tribes include the Gond and the Bhil. They practices mostly Hindus, Muslims or Christians. Some of the ethnicities are Mizo, Agrawal, Dhimal, Namassej, Chakma people, Lodha Muslims, and many more. There has been an ethnic cleansing/ genocide in India between the Muslims and Hindus that began in August 16, 1946. Although there were movements to end it, it has only calmed a little. There are still signs for it. |
Languages
India is a very populated country, so there is lot of cultural and geographical diversities. Due to this, there is a number of different languages spoken across the country. Some of are accepted nationally, while others are accepted as dialects of particular regions. All these languages originated from Indo-Aryan (spoken by 70% Indians), Dravidian languages (spoken by 22% Indians), Austro-Asiatic languages and Tibeto-Burman linguistic languages. India's official language is Hindi and it is the mother tongue language to 20% of the populations. |
